Case Study - Racetext Ltd
Consult TM are providing marketing services to a company offering an exciting new service delivering information on sporting events, to mobile phones using SMS messaging.

Racetext Ltd was started in early 2004 by Paul Worrall to provide event information direct to mobile phones using text messaging. Competitors, their entourage, spectators, friends and family at, or even away from, an event can receive personalised event information direct to their mobile phone. This unique service takes results direct from the sports timing systems and publishes the information via a secure web site, using proprietary technology, to SMS users.

Subscribers can receive either standard results or have them personalised relative to an individual competitor.

Racetext tested the service throughout 2004 to make sure it required minimal effort to operate and works with the main providers of timing systems. Mobiles have been beeping at Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Donington and Thruxton at various events and taking information directly from MST Sports Timing and HS Sports time keeping software.

The service has been successfully used to deliver start times to competitors on the 2004 Isle of Mull Rally and is planned for use at more rallys in 2005. In addition to rallying, Racetext has mobile phone content services planned for 2005 for Drag Racing, Karting, Car, and Motorcycle Racing.

Under the brand name of EVENTTEXT they are providing services to equestrian events including Badminton Horse Trials in May 2005.

Tony Merrygold has worked as Marketing Director of Racetext since the start-up period providing the following assistance:

  • Setting Marketing strategy
  • Defining the sales messages to the target audiences
  • Production of marketing material
  • Running PR campaigns
  • Helping run the trials
