Consult provided marketing services to a company offering a Content Management Service which allows them to quickly design and develop web sites for customers.
The customers then take over the management of the Content on the site so they can make sure the web site changes in line with the needs of their business.
Quinsolve has been designing, building and running web sites for customers since 1995, starting with one of the earliest tourist portals in the uk - for Stratford upon Avon www.stratford-upon-avon.co.uk. This quickly built into the main reference portal for the Stratford area and to this day consistently appears at the top of the major search engines. Quinsolve quickly followed with a portal site for Chipping Campden, one of the most beautiful towns in The Cotswolds. www.chippingcampden.co.uk
Success with these portals has turned Quinsolve into one of the main providers of web sites to the local tourist industry and they have gone on to deliver web sites for over 100 local companies. They have also built major web sites for Birmingham University and South Warwickshire Tourism.
During 2003 and 2004 Quinsolve started to develop their own Content Management System aimed at small to medium sized businesses. They believe that Content Management Systems are the future of the internet for small and medium businesses. Quinsolve agree a design with the customer, then build the site and hand it over to the customer to manage the content. This means the customer can respond quickly to changing business requirements, loading up new products or special offers and generally reacting to the local business environment.
Quinsolve had completed all of the technical work by mid 2004 and had a number of customers live on their Content Management System, but they lacked the resource and expertise to package their system into a fully fledged service and take it to market in a structured manner.
They engaged Tony Merrygold of Consult to provide the necessary marketing skills.
Following a couple of meetings to understand the product and the possible target markets, Tony developed a full marketing plan identifying the work required. Then as Quinsolve didn't have the resources available to implement the plan, Tony worked with them over a period of 5 months to ensure everything was fully implemented. This work included the following:
- Identifying the USPs for the new service
- Advising on the need to 'brand' the service
- Segmenting the marketplace into a number of target markets
- Developing plans to address the different target markets
- Defining the sales messages to the first two target markets
- Refining the pricing model and extending the package options available
- Refining and simplifying the existing contract terms and conditions
- Producing a simple, standard order form to ensure the service is easy to order
- Production of marketing material for both target markets
- Production of a number of case studies relevant to the target markets
So in February 2005, Quinsolve launched their Content Management Service under the brand name of ContentOK.

P.S. Remember Victor Kiam, who was so impressed with his Remington razor that he bought the company?
Well I haven't bought Quinsolve but I am so impressed with ContentOK that I use it run both this web site and the one for my other company The Open Road. I have also recommended both ContentOK and Quinsolve to a number of my own colleagues and clients.
